A Song A Day: Don’t Stop Believin’

Song #18 Journey – Don’t Stop Believin’

Why I Picked It: I just came from a wedding where this was playing.  Best dance floor karaoke…ever.

Why I Like It: It’s Journey’s Don’t Stop Believin’…who doesn’t like this song?

But I guess that isn’t the point of these A Song A Day posts.  I suppose what I love most about this song – aside from its singability and the pop rock head boppin’ qualities – is that it’s a story.  It’s got great detail –

A singer in a smokey room
A smell of wine and cheap perfume
For a smile they can share the night
It goes on and on and on and on –

and such a straight forward, encouraging chorus –

Don’t stop believin’
Hold on to the feelin’
Streetlight people

On a related note that relates to why I picked it, I had a lot of conversations about fulfilling your dreams today and being able to live life as yourself.  I also attended the wedding of a really good friend who always seems to be a carefree spirit  no matter what’s happening.  Of course weddings always resonate with the idea of the pursuit of love and symbolizing that it’s been found.

So this song reminds me of this day that has passed – of conquering so much (or at least the continuing effort to do so), of fulfilling what it is you set out to do.

So for anyone reading this, I hope you ‘don’t stop believing’ in whatever it is that you want to find.
