New Song: Hmm – cc.tran + YouTube

Yesterday was one of those days where things were happening left and right, back-to-back.  Which not only led me to forget my medication, but ultimately just tuckered me out by the end of the day.  So naturally, I had a time out and took some time to play with my guitar.

I ended up doing a YouTube video of a song that felt like a reflection of the day.  My song “Hmm” – which has a humming part to it (hence the title).  I wrote it on a bad day a long time ago while also thinking about the economy and how people’s lives have been shaped from it, and just how people’s lives become shaped in general.  How often have we chosen a path, watch time passed, and suddenly wonder why it is we “fight the good fight” when it’s not even that good?

New Song: Fairy Tale (Uke Demo)

charfairyI haven’t written a uke song in awhile, but my guitar is currently out of commission.  It’s autographed so I need a new one – lest I want to make the guitar un-autographed!

So I picked up my ukulele and started writing a song on a work break.  A couple of sessions I got a nice little demo song up.  Check it out on my ukechick myspace: http://www.myspace.com/ukechick (I was too lazy to upload and put it up here, not to mention uber-busy!).

Oh and the photo on the side is from a photoshopped image of an old Halloween costume from a long time ago.  Drudged it up from my old files when I was thinking of a good image to go with the song title.  Fairy Tale…Fairy? :)

Past Poetry & New Song: Lie to Me

I always find it amazing the sheer amount of volume of things I have written, tucked away, and forgotten.  The other day I pulled a line from an old poem that was simply “Lie to Me” and on my evening work break I finished up the song I started from that…entitled Lie to Me.  For any Buffy fans, this is not a reference to a Buffy Season 2 Episode, but I applaud you if you did remember that.

This song is about wanting someone to lie to you, not forever but just for a little while.  Where – in hindsight – this can either be good or bad, but I think there’s something to be said about the duration in which you can believe something to be true.

As in, the validity of parental praise regardless of the truth does build up self-esteem to some degree, no?  So I find that true about moments in life, sometimes people just need a good lie maybe more than the truth.  I think my favorite part of this song that conveys this is in the bridge: “Cause in life when the glass slipper falls/It’ll shatter/And when you’re walking on broken glass/What does it matter?”

Lyrics:

Lie to Me (cc.tran)

Can you hold on to your honesty?
Can we linger longer here?
Yes I’m saying lie to me
Oh – don’t take me away from here.

Chorus
Cause there’s gotta be more to this
There’s gotta be more than just this rush
And if that’s not the truth
Lie to me enough
Can you just lie to me
Can you just lie to me
Just let me be-lieve
I’m not saying die with me
Or even side with me
Just let me have enough.

You and I were dancing to a melody
Only you and I could hear
You were leading
I didn’t question destiny
I just wanted you near

Chorus

Cause in life when the glass slipper falls
It’ll shatter – oh oh oh
And when you’re walking on broken glass
What does it matter - oh oh oh

If you just lie to me
Can you just lie to me
Just let me be-lieve
I’m not saying die with me
Or even side with me
Just give me enough.

New Original Song: cc.tran’s “Magic”

Well the idea isn’t quite original, but I did want to write a song with that magical quality of love.   It went from a guitar song to a uke song back to a guitar song.  I’m bring my uke back…I just don’t know exactly how to yet (I suppose working on playing better should take precedent).  In any case, I’m very glad to get this to a finish-y level because it’s just nice to write a happy song every once in awhile!

So here it is – “Magic”.  Let me know if you think I should put it up on my MySpace or if you think this should be on my upcoming Guitar EP.  For now, you can stream it here:
