New Original Song: cc.tran’s “Magic”

Well the idea isn’t quite original, but I did want to write a song with that magical quality of love.   It went from a guitar song to a uke song back to a guitar song.  I’m bring my uke back…I just don’t know exactly how to yet (I suppose working on playing better should take precedent).  In any case, I’m very glad to get this to a finish-y level because it’s just nice to write a happy song every once in awhile!

So here it is – “Magic”.  Let me know if you think I should put it up on my MySpace or if you think this should be on my upcoming Guitar EP.  For now, you can stream it here:

Album Stream: Bob Dylan’s Together Through Life (Paste Magazine)

Bob Dylan's Together Through Life

Bob Dylan is pretty much the songwriter/musician that I want to meet.  He’s such a great lyricist and his songs are so powerful – whether it spans politics, religion, or love.  There’s just this earthy-quality to his work that I really love.  I’m late in the game in appreciating his work (kind of happens when you’re born a few decades after…) as I first began my real exploration of his work in his album Modern Times.  His most recent album after that just dropped today.

I’m sampling it right now off of Paste Magazine’s Stream: Album Stream: Listen to Bob Dylan’s Together Through Life :: Featured Audio :: A/V :: Paste.

My first impression?  It’s great.  My favorites so far?  Jolene (not a cover of the Dolly Parton song), This Dream of You (sounds reminiscient of Spanish music in my neighborhood growing up), and I Feel a Change Comin’ On.

New Original Song: “Again” on cc.tran myspace

Just uploaded a basic version of my song “Again” on my myspace (cc.tran music – http://www.myspace.com/ukechick).  I wanted to write a song about two lovers that didn’t work out and one hoping that the other can find love of similar intensity in the future.

Probably my most favorite song in the 8 or so I wrote last month during my “be more creative/artsy for lent” – yes, I pretty much wrote an album worth of songs.

In the eventual version of the song, I’m thinking background vocals, some keyboards, and percussion – at least that’s what I hear in my head…not sure if I can get it down.

Would love thoughts about the new song or just about the music in general.

Karaoke: I Dreamed A Dream

Les Miserables

Les Miserables

With all the Susan Boyle craze (isn’t that story awesome?  I tear-up every time I see that YouTube video), it made me remember how much I loved Fantine’s “I Dreamed A Dream” from Les Miserables.  I used to karaoke on YouTube video because it helped me with stage fright for a time, but I’m better now so the less evidence of how much I can embarrass myself, the better, and since SingShot/EA Karaoke died, I figure I could just put my random karaoke renditions here to get it out of my system.  It’s my blog after all. :)

So I’m no Susan Boyle vocally (and let’s not even talk about all those established Broadway greats), but here we go…

Update: Just read about this Susan Boyle Fan Sitehttp://susan-boyle.com/.  Looks ridiculously inspiring.
