Bosley - From Earth

Music from Bosley is the kind everyone needs on their ipod.  You know, that kind of music that has you dancing, the songs where the lyrics, beats, and hooks can’t help but stick – and luckily, Bosley is offering songs for free on ReverbNation.

All the songs are great, but here are the ones I love (notice how I mention almost all of them?).

Recommendations/Highlights

• After a long day of paper pushing or wishing you were doing something creative rather than the mundane, Quit Work Make Music can make you quit everything or at least give you a reprieve from your crappy day.
• If you just want to get up dance, there’s nothing like Boogie Dancing and Life is a Dance Floor.
• For that mix of dance and romance, enjoy the fun, first flirty meeting of Disco Lights, the feeling of falling in Quicksand, or something a little bit more epic in End of Time – where “all we have is each other at the end of the day and all we need is love…”
• Let’s be honest – what girl doesn’t want that one guy to try because of the Best Part?
• This Way is probably my favorite “story” song.  It’s the story of a relationship possibly ending and not wanting it to, and while it’s at the close of the album, it’s also the its catchiest song…which will probably tell you to rewind and listen to the rest all over again.

Free Wired

a) New Music! (well…since the last time I bought an album a couple of weeks ago )

b) It’s a really fun album.

I’m writing this after reading (a few) one-star reviews on iTunes criticizing the partying and star-status subject matter that dominates the album.  And I’m saying “Isn’t that some of the best parts of the album?”

Free Wired is filled with catchy beats and hooks, and how could it not be fun if you get away with Snoop Dogg spelling “condo” in a song and phrases like “You ain’t a dime, you’s a silva dolla”  (If I Was You (OMG) feat. Snoop Dogg – essentially the album’s obligatory spelling song).

Prior to the album launching and with Like a G6 all the rage (as it still is), a friend of mine stated joking:

really a g6? c’mon what happened to music 4 the people?

to which I replied

I’m fly like a g6. I’m the people! :-p

…and that’s kind of my point when people are complaining about music not being “real” because the subject matter is about other people having fun and living large.  Those haters completely miss the point.  The best songs are the ones that people can associate with personally – realistically or imaginatively.  Who wouldn’t want to be fly “Like a G6″ (whatever that means) or for at least a 3-minute duration be the person who is at the VIP table in “Girls on the Dance Floor” or if you’re a girl, have a guy tell you that you take his breath away (Fighting For Air).

So with this entry, I’m saying bask in fun music folks.  Free Wired is fun!  Live life up in song because let’s face it, we’re in a recession.  But do me a favor and leave some counterbalancing room for some Bach (like the festival concert I’ll be singing in )

In truth, I wrote most of Believe several weeks ago around Jesse’s birthday actually.  He and I were having a random conversation about love and logic to which he mentioned the line “as if love has logic” which got me to thinking because as a self-proclaimed “intellichick” sometimes I think my logic is the biggest problem.  Emotions aren’t logical in the least (except that it is logical that people have them), but my logic is all about protocol and “yes/no” and – whether I consciously do it or not – I’m always weighing percentages.

So while I’m far from Temprance Brennan of Bones, some of these logical aspects of this song is kind of how I think.  But the thinking isn’t really the focus of the song – it’s the believing, which – for any believer of anything – often has no logic seat of which to rest your laurels on.

This song is about wanting someone to lie to you, not forever but just for a little while.  Where – in hindsight – this can either be good or bad, but I think there’s something to be said about the duration in which you can believe something to be true. 

As in, the validity of parental praise regardless of the truth does build up self-esteem to some degree, no?  So I find that true about moments in life, sometimes people just need a good lie maybe more than the truth.  I think my favorite part of this song that conveys this is in the bridge: “Cause in life when the glass slipper falls/It’ll shatter/And when you’re walking on broken glass/What does it matter?”
