Accomplishments: “Angel Juarez” Gets an Honorable Mention from Glimmer Train

I was an Honorable Mention in this contest!

I was an Honorable Mention in this contest!

Yesterday I got an email from Glimmer Train that I received an Honorable Mention designation in their Very Short Fiction Contest.  See my name in PDF!  While this isn’t as life changing as Michelle Woo’s recent news and it doesn’t mean I get published, it surely is bragging rights.  I am told that to get this designation, I had to be in the top 5% of over a thousand entries.

Published: “Miss Independent II: Transcontinental Search”

Mused - Fall 2009Today is the Autumnal Equinox which just so happens to be the day that Mused – BellaOnline’s Literary Review just released its newest issue…which includes a non-fiction story by me.

You might note that my story title has a “2″. While this story is a stand alone piece, it does follow the theme of finding the meaning of “independent” that began in my previous publication with Mused in Spring 2008 – the original Miss Independent.

In Print: “Miss Independent”

My creative non-fiction

I was just informed that MUSED, the BellaOnline Literary Magazine, has all of its issues in downloadable print format.  If you’ve perused through my writing, you might recall that my creative non-fiction piece “Miss Independent” was published by BellaOnline Literary Magazine a year ago – Spring 2008.

Read “Miss Independent” online here.

Download it in MUSED, the BellaOnline Literary Magazine.  You need to register for free to access the PDF issue.  After going through the quick registration form, just click on “Mused” link.  Might want to just read online if you’re interested.  The PDF is 17MB.

Poem: the key by cc.tran

how dark  your locked up room -
four walls, closed door -
where you wrote your poems
read your books
gained your stay

how long
did you think you could stay?

did you see the light when it came? -
not the expected call
to death
but
unexpected

hope

did you see it
come into that room
opening the door?

reason to stay or
more reason to go

first it was your lock of hair
escaping walls
through that door
that kept you in
