Gleek

For those who follow my music side (and overall randomness), I just submitted an audition to be on GLEE! I would appreciate any support or just check out the video for kicks! In addition to my 1-minute monologue, I am singing “Lean on Me” while playing the ukulele. Here’s the link: http://bit.ly/94OQQr

Thanks!!

YouTube: Classical Cover of Lady Gaga’s “Telephone” by Aston

Written on April 16, 2010 at 11:36 am, by

I love when people take something and make it entirely new!  Especially when there becomes a classical version from an initial pop song.  Can someone give me my choral version of Linkin Park’s “In the End” yet?

OK Go: This Too Shall Pass (Embedded Video)

After reading the letter on Gizmodo from Damian of OK Go, I have decided to do a post where I embed this video.  Major labels and corporations have this tenuous relationship with social media – clamoring for its attention while simultaneously doing crap-like things that dissuade the consumer from telling others what they like.  Read the letter and learn about how you can’t embed YouTube videos.  I’m a big fan of OK Go – one of the best concerts I’ve ever had in my life featured them.  It was at a rinky-dink dive bar in Hollywood where they ran down to the floor and did a live recording.  So here’s their latest song – This Too Shall Pass.

Review: Ashley Tisdale’s Guilty Pleasure

Ashley Tisdales Guilty Pleasure

Ashley Tisdale's Guilty Pleasure

Ashley Tisdale’s Guilty Pleasure is not quite a guilty pleasure.  Just as with Unlove You from her previous album (Headstrong), the only real ballad Me Without You lends me to like her ballad choice, but wish it were sung by someone else.  I’m also not sure about the songs “Delete You” and “Hair” (“I like what you do to my hair…”) as I find them failed attempts at writing songs about something not often sung about (Hair: liking how a love interest messes with one’s hair) or taking advantage of present-day terms (Delete You) in hopes that it will be catchy (they’re not). “How Do You Love Someone” also lacks a certain amount of authenticity reflected less by Tisdale’s execution of the song but more so by her mainstream persona.  The song calls to lessons never provided by parental figures and Ms. Tisdale’s Disney-fied image doesn’t quite fit the mold.

Music: Strict Joy by The Swell Season

The Swell SeasonSo I’ve fallen a bit on the wayside on the “A Song A Day” pick (life’s been busy), but to make up for it, here’s an awesome new album I found today.

The actors of “Once” have collaborated as a group called The Swell Season.  Their album Strict Joy is an enjoyable mix of acoustic sounds and the soothing voices Glen Hansard and Marketa Irglova. My favorite songs are in the middle Fantasy Man and High Horses. NPR has the album in full to listen to here: http://www.npr.org/templates/story/story.php?storyId=113630469
