Lessons in Concert Etiquette (Standing Room Edition)

Today I went to a concert and it seriously felt like “Lessons in Concert Etiquette (Standing Room Edition).”  Naturally, I figured it would be best to outline it all:

YouTube: “A Little More of You” Cover (on Piano!)

I’ve had a keyboard for years and took piano for a semester in high school, almost took piano for a semester in college (but then my hands were acting up), but I’ve never really been able to playing on it (aside from Fur Elise must to the chagrin of and subsequent banning by my friend Adam).  Occasionally I’ll be able to tinker with the keys and pick out some basic melody of familar songs, but not the actually whole songs – let alone playing the piano and singing anyway.  But the other day, with some obssessive concentration, I was able to learn the basic piano for Ashley Chambliss’ “A Little More of You”.  It doesn’t sound as pretty as her more elaborate version, but I do feel accomplished and I’m all about that.

YouTube: Karaoke Cover of “I’m Not That Girl” (Wicked)

One of my favorite songs, from one of my favorite musicals. I’d love to play the Elphaba character one day, but at this rate, my days of thespian musical theatre are long over. But I guess that’s why there’s YouTube karaoke!

New Song: Hmm – cc.tran + YouTube

Written on July 1, 2010 at 11:08 pm, by

Yesterday was one of those days where things were happening left and right, back-to-back.  Which not only led me to forget my medication, but ultimately just tuckered me out by the end of the day.  So naturally, I had a time out and took some time to play with my guitar.

I ended up doing a YouTube video of a song that felt like a reflection of the day.  My song “Hmm” – which has a humming part to it (hence the title).  I wrote it on a bad day a long time ago while also thinking about the economy and how people’s lives have been shaped from it, and just how people’s lives become shaped in general.  How often have we chosen a path, watch time passed, and suddenly wonder why it is we “fight the good fight” when it’s not even that good?

New Song: Believe – cc.tran + YouTube

I love when songs come from random inspirations – one-off lines that friends say.  Zinfandel was one of those songs (“pour me another glass of that wine” – trevor) and I suppose Believe is going to get added to that list (“…as if love has logic” – jesse).

In truth, I wrote most of Believe several weeks ago around Jesse’s birthday actually.  He and I were having a random conversation about love and logic to which he mentioned the line “as if love has logic” which got me to thinking because as a self-proclaimed “intellichick” sometimes I think my logic is the biggest problem.  Emotions aren’t logical in the least (except that it is logical that people have them), but my logic is all about protocol and “yes/no” and – whether I consciously do it or not – I’m always weighing percentages.
