I love artichoke hearts, but I've never had whole artichokes.  My CSA box this week arrived with three of them.  After looking around at recipes (dominated by "spinach and artichoke" dip), I decided that I would try to roast them.  I used this recipe from About.com - Simple Roasted Artichokes Recipe, adding in some steak seasoning (comprised of salt, pepper, paprika, garlic, coriander) based on the user review.  -cct   Read more [...]

On Star Wars and Making Sushi

I randomly decided to learn how to make sushi and somehow Star Wars haunted me every step of the way (it must have been the Force...naturally).  This cooking adventure started because the online recipes I found didn't look too difficult and given endless sushi filling possibilities, it was also a great food know-how to add to my "newly vegetarian" arsenal. I modified a recipe I found with berries from Exploits of a Vegan Wannabe.  So you could say that this recipe was made by Renee Mahon, slightly modified Read more [...]

Veggie Day 1: Salad Making #30DaysofGood

So I decided to take up the GOOD 30 Day Challenge - Go Vegetarian.  I had thought to do this before my 2-week school seminar, but since that seminar was going to be in Texas and I wouldn't have the best control over my food options, I decided to hold off...and I wasn't going to go as extreme as a whole month, but well, here we go... A note, I found out about this in the afternoon, so I am not counting the Chicken Pesto Sandwich I had for lunch :). I figured that to best meet this challenge Read more [...]
