Reading Between the Lines: CNN’s Falcon Lake Story

Written on October 28, 2010 at 4:15 pm, by

There’s a part of me that is truly sympathetic to the plight of the Falcon Lake widow that is the focal point of this CNN story, but I was equally annoyed by the story as well.  It may have been personal – I lost a dear friend to the senseless violence going on in Mexico less than a year ago.  Bobby Salcedo was young and lived a life full of promise.  He will inspire people for years to come.  He was also an American.  In fact, he taught me a lot about what it means to be an American because at one time he was my Economics/Government teacher in high school.

Free Yourself with Far East Movement’s Free Wired

Free Wired - Far East Movement Free Wired dropped on Tuesday and has been on pretty heavy rotation on my iPod because

a) New Music! (well…since the last time I bought an album a couple of weeks ago :) )

b) It’s a really fun album.

I’m writing this after reading (a few) one-star reviews on iTunes criticizing the partying and star-status subject matter that dominates the album.  And I’m saying “Isn’t that some of the best parts of the album?”

I am a firm believer that some of the best people in L.A. are the Los Angeles bloggers.  Granted, I could be a little bias.  But given how awesome an event last week’s Blogger Prom 2010 was (which was planned by a committee of bloggers), I think I have ample evidence that L.A. bloggers are the best people to party with!  The “Hollywood Confidential” theme was celebrated in full force by all in attendance and the beautiful Yamashiro Restaurant created the perfect atmosphere to turn the clock back to the glitz and glamour of silver screen Hollywood.  The night was also for a good cause – proceeds went to Operation Frontline: Los Angeles.  The donation page is still live for anyone interested in contrbuting to this worthwhile cause.  Below are some featured photos of the evening.  In addition to the glamour, there was a ton of delectable food (so the hungry beware!):

YouTube: Karaoke Cover of “What I Did For Love” (A Chorus Line)

Lea Michele sang this song on Glee last week.  Incidentally, I saw a great performance of where the song originates from – A Chorus Line – a few months ago!  I hope I did the song justice!

TV Review: Community – Season 2, Ep. 1

Written on September 26, 2010 at 9:49 pm, by

Oh Community, how I’ve missed you.  I wasn’t sure how I’d like Community this second season, given the way it all ended with Jeff kissing Annie after Brita declared her love for him.  I honestly thought the paintball episode seemed like it could have been the better ending.  But after how this episode wrapped up those elements, added in the Gollum-like Senor Chang, had Betty White as an anthropology professor, and the old white man says Twitter account, I have to conclude that it was pretty spectacular.  And of course, aside from the “Is there any room in this pocket for a little spare Chang?” line, the best thing ever was the anthropology rap with Donald Glover and Danny Pudi, featuring Betty White:
