The Versatile Bob Haircut: Louise Brooks, Uma Thurman, Amelie, Knives Chau, and Others

When I cut my hair short, I got several comments that I looked like “such and such” person.  It could have been due to me (I am constantly being mistaken for someone else, and I don’t think it’s just the “all Asian girls look alike” stereotype) or it could have been the haircut – the bob style haircut made famous by 1920s stars like Louise Brooks.  So I thought I’d have a little fun with this idea (and break from work, school, and my NaNoWriMo novel) and showcase the versatility of this haircut.

1920s - Me and Louise Brooks
The Glamour of the Roaring 1920s - Louise Brooks was at the height of her career as a silent film star and was among the celebrity actresses that made this hairdo famous!

Uma Thurman (Mia Wallace/Pulp Ficton) | wiki

Me and Uma Thurman as Mia Wallace
Uma Thurman/Mia Wallace - While perhaps not the most sunshine character in the world, the talented Uma Thurman met critical acclaim for her portrayal as Mia Wallace in "Pulp Fiction" donning on a bob hair cut wig.

Hilary Duff/With Love Video | YouTube

Me and Hilary Duff - With Love Trench
Hat and Trench Coat - Hilary Duff donned a black bob-cut wig as she became an alter ego post-performance, snagging herself a cute stalker type guy (he's cute, but I'm not sure I understood the stalker part). And while I wish I had that black/purple reversible trench, my pink Wet Seal one will just have to do.

Audrey Tautou as Amelie | YouTube

Me as Amelie
Audrey Tautou as Amelie - This was actually the event that instigated this bob haircut post. My co-worker Priyesh handed me my Amazon package and then observed, 'Do you know the movie Amelie? You look like her.' There are definitely worse things in the world than being compared to the lovely Audrey Tautou.

Ellen Wong as Knives Chau from Scott Pilgrim vs. The World | Wiki

Me and Knives Chau (Ellen Wong)
The Stereotypical - When I cut my hair and met up with my friend Julius, he told me this was the first thing he thought when he saw my picture on Facebook. Since the character is a lame, stereotypical groupie until the end, I will represent after she gets the 'blue' knocked out of her hair and kicks butt. Like the crappy flaming sword I managed to make in Photoshop? Also I don't own/haven't made a black and white scarf, so my SC one I made will have to do. And yet, I do own a red katana.

Faith/Mirror’s Edge | Wiki

Me in Mirror's Edge
Mirror Image? - Mirror's Edge is a single-player video game I own and cannot get pass training mode. Ah well, a little eye make-up with this haircut and I can just pretend I am the character. 😉

Any other famous bob haircuts?  I promise the costume party of one is over.
